Hello, my name is Julian Sutter. I am a rock climbing, website building, idealist living in Southern California. This is my site and like me, is a constant work in progress.

Ronnie James Dio – Heaven or Hell, hope your rocking out.

Ronnie James Dio died on Sunday at the age of 67 to complications of stomach cancer.

This message posted by Wendy Dio was found today on Dio’s website.

Dio is most famous for his song holy diver, which had has one of the most epic music videos of all times.

Dio is important to me because his stint as lead singer of black sabbath produced some of the best vocal metal tracks of all times.  Sins of the Father being a song which currently has well over 500 plays in my itunes (that does not include the CD in my car.)

Ronnie James Dio, your music and vocals have held a major place in my heavy metal heart.  You may have passed on, but your music will continue to play in my collection, now more than ever.

Bassnectar Seek and Destroy Download Remix

basnectar-metallica

Quick.  Download this track now.  If you like metallica, or you like dubstep then download this now.

Bassnectar first dropped this track at Coachella music festival this spring (2010) and it was SICK.

You can see the preformance (I was about half way back in the tent) and just see how the audience went insane.  The beat dropping was amazing.

You can imagine how happy I was when I got the email an hour ago with the official release of the track.

If you have not heard of bassnectar before then I REALLY recommend you check out the best dubstep music.  I highly recommend timestretch the album as well as the free download with Nelly.

Okay enough waiting, go sign up for the mailing list and listen to the best metallica remix I have ever heard!

Sick.

A Family that Eats Pho

He is an unshaven, indian woven belt wearing man with a visible split in the seams of his left shoe. You could see him in a research library, or the corner of University and Dispaire.
She is a beautiful makeup free brunet with a flowing paisley print shirt.  Tall, flipflop wearing, she seems very confident.  She is definitely a nerd.
There Children are roughly 10 and 14.  Curious boys who seem to care more about science than soccer. They wear school Uniforms.  The youngest a white (or what once was white) cotton button down.   The oldest is wearing a collared shirt.  The kind of shirt that freshman wear in order to show they can CHOOSE which callared shirt to wear.
They order tofu spring rolls, a giant bowl of pho and a variety of drinks.  The youngest requires a bit of nudging to try a drink that is “interesting and different”.  In the end he seems content with the choice.
As they eat the discussion seams to meander around random facts learned that day.  ”Chinese is the most spoken language in the world” and “french and italian are more common than expected”.  Statements like “If one man can change the world, imagine what a million people can do, they could change the Universe” are said without fear of mockery.
I am not sure why I am so fascinated with this family.  They are no better than my own.  It is nice to see a family, which like mine, encouraged curiosity.  A family that is not “typical”, they eat pho, discuss population numbers, and most of all seem totally happy with how they are.

It’s only a parking lot, be nice!

On the corner of Blaine and Iowa in Riverside California is a small corner mini mall.  It consists of a Verizon, subway, wells fargo atm and of course…. Starbucks (que evil soundtrack).

Although lately I am doing everything I can to go to other riverside coffee shops than starbucks, the wells fargo ATM ensures I end up in this shopping area on a weekly basis.

Today, I noticed something.  People lack all sense of decency when finding a parking spot. The lot probably has no more than 40 spots, small. Yet you can watch 3 cars duke it out over 5 spots. Honking, pulling in front of others (making it hard for me to get OUT) will only save you at BEST 80 feet of walking in this parking lot.

O and throw into the mix the people pulling into the starbucks drive thru and you have a recipe for disaster!

So, my point with this little rant of mine is simple.  BE NICE, it’s only a parking spot!

Great Grandma’s Blackberry Patch

grandmas-blackberries Yesterday shopping at sprouts (the most amazing grocery store in Riverside) I picked up a couple cartons of blackberries.  Excited to eat blackberries again I got to the car and popped open the plastic container and popped one in my mouth.

I was not prepared for what happened next.  I was instantly taken back to being a kid, picking blackberries at my great grandmothers house.  Grandma Nelson was my dad’s mom’s mother, making her my grandmother and the oldest relative I ever knew. Read More »

Seize the Second, Seize the day

This last week while browsing my favorite forum I came across a thread started by someone looking for motivation.

See, most of the readers on this forum are self employed internet marketers who make a living from home.  Focus for this type of group can be difficult so this type of thread is not uncommon.  Among the posts, one response stuck out the most to me.

Giggling does not make you cute so put your kids away and order faster

starbucks-line

Okay, so this may come across as a rather ranty angry post.  That is because it is.

I drink Coffee every day. I can generally function without it (for a couple hours) but my tollerance level is mightly low pree  med. cup of coffee (don’t tell me its a grande).

This morning while I was in line for starbucks (already something that will put me into a bad mood) I noticed that our the line was not moving.  Why was this line not moving?  Someone had decided that they would order 8 drinks, with special instructions for each, and pay split up.

Instead of ordering fast, or being prepared she kept giggling.  The whole while her id is running around the store bumping into people, poking shit, and she is paying no attention.

STOP GIGGLING, ORDER AND PUT YOUR KID AWAY!

I am sorry if I lack the experience of having a kid, and can’t “understand what its like”  I can however understand what its like to sit in a coffee line for 10 min because you have no idea how to manage the seed of your womb.

The most annoying part of all of this was definitely that she kept giggling and saying shit like “ooo I bet everyone in line hates me now”

YES WE DO!

GRRR  It’s been a solid 10 hours since this happened, although most of the “in the moment” spite is gone, I really hope she is not in Starbucks tomorrow.  I know I won’t be.

Learning from a bad day of climbing

We all have them, bad days.  A bad say SUCKS and can quickly roll from bad to horrible.
One of the most frustrating things for me can be when I have a bad day of climbing.  Climbing requires such a level of mental concentration that if you are in the wrong mindset a simple move can seem impossible.
