So, I ended up watching both these videos, totaling over 1 hour, but well wroth it. If you don’t have a lot of time to sit back and watch, I recommend at least glancing through the first one.
So, after watching these lectures (which I found to be SUPER interesting) I am still stuck with the through “but if I was obviously innocent, wouldn’t I want to explain that?” and “but I have nothing to hide!” also pops into mind.
That said, anyone who knows me, knows that I have the ability to both run my mouth and run it right into a hole worth of digging out of.
Now, I am not recommending that people be rude to cops, or refuse to answer basic questions. The lecture does make a good point though. When it comes down to it, nothing you say can help you later, it can only hurt you.
One thing I can say is that authority figures can be REALLY intimidating. They know there job, and if you are pulled over, questioned or even walking buy a cop, its on there terms. I do have a story about trying to lie to an authority figure (fire) back when I was in junior high. I can tell you from experience, that was a really really stupid idea.
So if I get pulled over for speeding, and am asked “do you know how fast you were going?” I won’t be jumping up and down screaming “I TAKE THE 5th!” I will try and keep my mouth shut through.
